Seven Devils by Elizabeth May and Laura Lam Review!

Seven Devils for me is a solid 4*.

As someone who doesn't typically like Sci-fi novels, I was not expecting to get super invested in this book, but lo and behold I did. Each of our main characters had their own personality and motivations, as well as each having a dark backstory.

I was truly hurt when we discovered that Sher was the traitor, and I hope that in book 2 we will be able to find a quick antidote for Nyx as I don't want her to die.

I admired how these authors were able to time jump between the past and the present without making it confusing. The way they used the time jumps was great, as they were sometimes used to maintain suspense due to having to wait to see what happened after cliffhangers in the present day storylive. Other times they were used to decrease the intensity after a particularly amped up scene.

Additionally, I loved how this book approached the topic of consent within a relationship with Rhea and Clo, they also took the time building up to them becoming sort of a thing. This is also one of my favourite parts as it is lovely to have a story like this without it being the main thing about their personality.

On top of this there is multiple topics of diversity, to name a few there is: Lesbian representation, Trans Rep, Disability Rep, and BIPOC rep. I do love how the authors were so caring with their representation and doing their research for subjects they may not have expierenced in their own lives.

In short the only way I could pitch this book is Space rebellion with occasional lesbian kisses.

Overall, I loved this book and it would've been higher rated if we got a bit more backstory about our new person Cato (though I do imagine we will get that in book 2). I can't wait for book 2 to come out so I can continue on with this story and see where the results on this book will take us next!
